As the body detoxifies from heavy metals, symptoms similar to those already existing may occur. This is a normal and temporary reaction. It's important to ensure daily intestinal transit during the period of detoxification in order to prevent toxins from being reabsorbed through the intestine; this will reduce the possible discomfort of the detoxification process. It is also important to ensure a good balance of friendly bacteria in the intestine. A mineral rich diet, especially in calcium, is important since mineral levels decline in the presence of heavy metals. Drink at least 10 cups of pure water per day during detoxification, and don't drink alcohol, coffee, tea or cola drinks in order to avoid overwhelming the liver and kidneys. An alkaline, balanced diet is required during the detoxification period. That's why it's recommendable to eat vegetables, fruit, almonds, seeds and gluten-free grains (rice, millet, quinoa and amaranth). Foods that overload the immune system should be minimized, such as tomatoes, potatoes, citrus fruits, red meat, chicken and dried fruit.
